SPARK Motorsports’ last tyre-shredding and rubber-burning action for 2010 ended on a good note as its sponsored driver, Ryuji Miki won third place in the final round of the Formula Drift Asia series at Dataran Merdeka on 18 to 19 December.
About 40 over gung-ho drifters from Japan, Hong Kong, China, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia and New Zealand participated in this competition. This spectacular event happened right in front of the iconic Sultan Abdul Samad building. The track layout required the participating cars to start from the Jalan TAR/ Jalan Tun Perak junction, accelerating across the bridge, before going through an S-shaped course in front of Sultan Abdul Samad building. There were a total of three rear-clipping points before the course ends with a hairpin turn.
Hot favorite Ryuji Miki from Team Goodyear – SPARK Motorsports put pressure on himself and his team with a zero score across the board for his first run. Fortunately, in his second qualifying run, he managed to score 61.3 points, putting him as the ninth qualifier out of the Top 32 placing. Ryuji Miki ended the race well by securing third place.
Formula Drift USA drifter Charles Ng from Team Goodyear – SPARK Motorsports also managed to secure into the Top 32 placing despite damaging both the front and rear-ends of his Toyota Chaser. The damaged JZX100 was repaired swiftly with the help of the pit support given by SPARK Motorsports professional pit crew.
With the drift car back in racing condition, Charles Ng was able to race on the second day. In his Top 16 run, Charles Ng fought on a good fight with Kokae, a Goodyear drifter from Thailand. They put up one of the best duels of the day.
During the autograph session, SPARK Motorsports’ pit lane was swarmed with spectators and the media, all hoping to catch a glimpse of Ryuji Miki, Charles Ng and our hottie race queens.
SPARK Motorsports is happy to end the year on a good note. We look forward to a better year in 2011. We are sure that our future events would be even more exciting! So please do keep a lookout for our upcoming races in Year 2011!
