The Shop
As a child, many of us have been fascinated with the toy cars and vehicles that accompany us through our good old childhood times. As we grow up, the memories of our happy past faded into a grayish recollection. Thankfully, there’s now the opportunity to reminisce the happy memories and get back in touch with those cars that occupied our childhood times.
Introducing Automodels (S) Private Limited, a local setup dealing mainly with the retail and distribution of die-cast vehicle models (including cars, motorcycles, planes, etc). According to Alicia, of Automodels, the company was set up to cater to the growing interest of local hobbyists for die-cast vehicle models. The number of die-cast hobbyists is growing rapidly in Singapore, and this is evident in the increasing number of forums and collector clubs formed to provide a common platform for discussion and interest sharing among die-cast enthusiasts. To effectively reach out to would-be customers with different interests and budgets, the shop stocks itself with many world-renowned brands of die-cast products including AutoArt, Minichamps, Hobby Master and Century Wings, which come in a variety of sizes and price ranges. You will most certainly find something that is of your interest right here within the shop. There are currently two Nikko shops in Singapore, the first being located in Millenia Walk. The second shop, which is also the one that our 8Flo team has visited, is located along the popular Orchard shopping belt.
Located at the 1st level of Far East Shopping Centre, the Nikko shop immediately sets itself apart from the rest of the shops which are mainly selling items such as cameras and electronic hardware. Based on a windowless concept, you can literally see into the shop, and your first gaze would definitely land on the multitude of model cars gracing the shelves inside the shop.
Entering the shop, you will be greeted with a warm and gracious ‘Welcome’ from Alicia and the counter-staff. At the same time, your attention will then be shifted to the three ‘wall clocks’, which resemble the Big Brake Kits (BBK) that’s normally found on performance cars. Venturing deeper into the shop you will probably be amazed to witness the rare coffee table supported underneath using a car rim. The item that would definitely capture your full attention (if you do see it) is the bathroom pump with a handle fabricated out of a manual knob shift. Alongside this, you will find the racing seat-shaped hand phone holder, watches with coilovers and sway bar and other highly detailed items revolving around the car theme.

Auto Art's car inspired watches, phone holder, salt, pepper and toothpick holder, coffee cup and key chains
Thereafter, you will experience that overwhelming sense of enthusiasm within yourself to go through the various shelves in search of your dream vehicles and purchase one for your own collection. Running yours eyes through the row of vehicles neatly arranged on the shelves, the average motor enthusiast should identify most of the die-cast models, which ranges from the highly popular Formula One Grand Prix vehicles, to the Le Mans Series and D1 Grand Prix competition vehicles, and finally right down to the everyday vehicles that you see on the roads. The body details, including both the exterior and interior outlook, the full-on decals for the race vehicles as well as the color works, are so professionally replicated that the models are real-life resemblances of the actual examples, albeit on a smaller scale.
Our dear Alicia has even been kind enough to bring out the shop’s most “prized possessions”; that of the Bugatti Veyron supercar, the highly detailed Mercedes SLR with real leather seats and the widely acclaimed JDM supercar killer in the guise of the Nissan R35 GTR. With a limited pieces available worldwide for each model and costing from half a grand to one grand per piece, this are certainly some items that die-hard collectors would not want to miss the opportunity to include as part of their collections. Besides the impressive display of die-cast cars, the shop too caters to the other group of consumers who are interested in die-cast models in the form of fighter jets, ships, motorcycles and even Caterpillar tractors.
If you are looking for a one-stop shop selling a full range of die-cast vehicle models, why not head down to the local Nikko shop to secure the ownership of that dream vehicle of yours? Who knows, your dreams may just end up as an eventual reality!
Happy Shopping!
